Our Ratings

Price w/ Installation $$$$

We have found that even though this is positioned in the higher priced market, it is a fair price for the quality product that it is. Several systems that are more fragile can cost as much as 35% more than GutterGlove. Comparing the strong and durable extruded aluminum support with the higher alloyed 316 SS micromesh to cheap plastics and flimsy sheet metal product makes our choice clear. 2012 Update: GutterGlove higher price is in part due to the complexity of inhalation (custom end caps and components such as fingers in-between panels needed to mount the product.)

Protection Coefficient 4/5

One of the key features of this gutter protection system is its ability to keep particulates out of the gutter and stop clogging of the downspout. Anything 8 microns or larger cannot penetrate the 316 SS micromesh. With the custom made end caps, nothing can get into your gutter to cause clogging. 2012 Update: after subjecting the product to accelerated weathering we have found that various organic growth can occur within the mesh – moreover very tiny shingle grit can lodge itself within the mesh causing partial clogging.

Industry Reputation 4/5

Differences between established companies and smaller contractors have led to some complaints. Make sure that your contractor has been installing GutterGlove on a regular basis and is well trained and certified.

Strength 4/5

GutterGlove is, by far, the second strongest system in the marketplace. The extrusion of extruded and anodized aluminum is almost an eighth of an inch thick. It can be placed on its end and one can drive a car over it without it buckling. The 316 SS wire in the micromesh is 0.005” in diameter making it one of the sturdiest meshes in the industry. GutterGlove even thought of using a low carbon grade of 316 SS to maintain its malleability after the weaving process. This prevents limbs and other debris from penetrating the resilient micromesh. 2012 Update: After conducting the drop test some of the micromesh came out out of the support frame – thus exposing the gutter.

Water Throughput 4/5

The second most important feature of GutterGlove is its ability to take in so much water. It will handle well over 200” of rain per hour off of your roof. This is better described in comparison to the local TV station meteorologist. GutterGlove will handle 9.6” of metered rain per hour. This is more rain, in one -hour, than has ever been recorded in the Mid-Atlantic States, even during severe hurricanes. 2012 Update: As clogging can occur on the ultra thin mesh with organic matter, ultra fine shingle grit and various oils (leached from the roof) and sap – the water throughput can be compromised.

Durability 4/5

GutterGlove is nearly indestructible. It should outlast the home, itself. The combination of extruded and anodized aluminum eliminates any chance of bowing or basketing. The anodization protects against a galvanic reaction between it and stainless steel and/or copper.

Gutterglove Pro Overall 4/5

GutterGlove Pro has been our recommendation for many years, and it still remains a great product, following the 2012 testing results we would still recommend this product as well as GutterDome to homeowners.

Note: Gutterglove works only as Good as it is Installed:

I looked at the reviews talking about strength. Gutterguard has three models, the pro, the ultra and the leaf blaster. The pro is described as the strongest. Are you talking about the pro or the other models?

could your drips be from water collecting on the edge of the gutter, or from it not hitting the gutter at all? what did your system cost to have installed? how many ft?

steve thats because the installer has it at to steep of a pitch, your roof is probably a steeper style, if it is the installer should lower the cover down to about a 15 degree angle and there will be no run off, I own the rights to washington state for gutterglove and were currently installing 2,000 feet weekly, as with everything it must be installed correctly.also tile and metal roofs allow the water to come off at a higher rate of speed, so its very important in those conditions to flatten out the gutterglove just a little, hope that helps.

We purchased a five year old home with Guttergloves already installed and we have drips from BEHIND the gutters, in front of the gutters, and screens loaded with fine dirt which keeps them from working properly (despite cleaning). We’re considering having everything removed and going with another system.

I am, like many of your correspondents, interested in a gutter guard system. I have tons of leaves and when it rains, plenty of water. I am in Ellicott City, MD. I need an estimate. Who do you have as installers for my area.

Would you please address Elizabeth’s question of 10/05/11. I am very interested in your answer.

    Thanks,

This is why we provide the NCR Verified Dealer service where we pick the the best installers in your area for a particular product – the dealers that have zero outstanding complaints and if they do get a complaint they have 48 hours to respond or correct the issue before we suspend the verified status.

      @Mike

You certainly have the right to your opinion – our basis for reviewing gutter protection products is we review and you decide.

The internet is filled with countless number of other reviews for gutter guards we strive to be the most transparent and comprehensive to our readers, our sole mission for this review is to serve the homeowner by testing gutter guards; publishing results and exposing the frauds.

If you believe for us to bias – please add some cometary with some sort of facts or reasons for it, otherwise your comment is of little or no value.

We have always encouraged our readers to contribute to our review and make our page better for the fellow reader and thanks to that gutterprotection review has grown into a community for open discussions and valuable information about an industry that tends to be cloaked in mystery.

      Thank you for visiting,

I understand how COnsumer reports works. I dont quite understand the business model for NCR. Is this a for profit company? But if not , NCR still needs to break even. So who funds this group? How much funding or influence is given by the gutter glove companies? How Does NCR maintain their independence?

          Steve,

Thank you for your question and as you probably guesses that this gets asked quite frequently.

Some 5 or 6 years ago the Editor of NCR – Carolinas News Network was a homeowner like yourself, seeking to find the best product for his home, and a product that is truly good not just because the salesmen says it is.

An article was written about gutter covers and some basic testing was done to reveal the dirty secrets about the gutter cover industry. This article brought nationwide attention and a bunch of letters from lawyers that represented the various systems that were discussed – demanding that NCR sensor the articles and names of products. NCR decided that because all of the great efforts to sensor this information, it was there 1st amendment patriotic duty as journalists to expose the gutter guard industry in the way that would reach the most readers and so GutterProtectionReview.org was launched.

To generate revenue we attempted at using traditional adds from the ad networks that NCR relies on, however soon discovered that the ads were of a very deceptive nature and in some ways defeated our goals of this site. So we pulled the plug on the ads and operated in the red for a few years.

Throughout the time of operating this site we were asked many times for a referral to a quality installer – although we only knew a NC local installer that did fantastic work and received much customer praise – our site was attracting a much larger national presence – so we decided that it would add value to our readers to provide a referral service (much like angies list ) for good installers of gutter products – thus we launched the NCR Verified installer program where the installers paid us an application fee that we used to check public records and do preliminary research about them, then the dealers would pay a small monthly fee to stay on and so long as they provided a valuable service to our readers at a fair price they stayed on the our referral list, if the installer failed to deliver to the customer we would kick them off. This worked and continues to work as the installers needs customers and customers want good service and the incentive for the installer to perform a quality service is present as the consequence of not providing it would be the loss of our readers to them. We view this as fair, and hope you see it the same as this referral service provides us no incentive to favor one brand to the other and therefore has no effect on any results that we publish. Moreover it provides us an incentive to keep searching and testing for the best product.

More recently we launched a research portion where companies or individuals could purchase detailed reports about the industry – although this service is very new, we are hoping that manufacturers and inventors of gutter guards would purchase our research documents to help them create and engineer better gutter protection products.

We are continuing to experiment with various ways to generate income to support our efforts in reviewing the gutter cover industry and in such we always do so in in the most ethical way that would not compromise our reputation – and our strong reputation is inherently linked to the trust of our readers if we lose the trust of our readers then everything we have done and would do would be in vain.

In Fredericksburg VA, I called for a quote to install GutterGlove. An estimator from Media Painting LLC came to our home and measured for the estimate. When he presented the estimate he also presented an estimate for Leaf Solution which he said was as effective as GutterGlove but slightly cheaper. Is Leaf Solution associated with GutterGlove? Can you tell me anything about Leaf solution? I can find advertising but no reviews. I am leaning to the GutterGlove because of the rave reviews but I wonder if this is a good installer for the product.
